Our position at noon today. The Captain just made his noon PA saying we should be anchoring at Punta del Este, Uruguay, at 8:15 tomorrow morning. It was 72F with hazy skies and the wind has died down to 15 knots at noon. As a result the ride is much smoother today. We can expect some showers maybe later this afternoon.
What We Did Last Night:
We ran into Eddie & Lynn Zito from Wisconsin in the Mariner Lounge at cocktail hour and ended up dining with them for dinner in Compass Rose. We skipped dessert a second night in a row in order to get to the theater for the show. The Zito's are like us and like to sit on the front row for the JAR production shows. "Dancing in the Streets" is a great show featuring Motown songs from '60s & '70s. The dancing was soooooo good.
During dinner we could see flashes of lightning from passing thunderstorms. Earlier (around 5:00 pm) we ran into very thick fog with visibility less than probably 100 feet. Strange weather with the strong winds most of yesterday.
What We Did today:
This is our last day at sea as have 8 straight days in ports coming up. Hopefully my blog postings will be a lot more interesting. Arose at 8:00 am to greet another wonderful day of cruising. First thing we listen to on tv every morning is Jamie, our cruise director, describing the activities scheduled for the day. We also get a daily paper called "Passages" which lists all the activities and
schedules of all the ship's venues. This morning we discovered that tonight is a "formal optional" dress night. We had it marked on our calendar for the 19th. We had a Prime 7 reservation at 7:00 this evening so I ran down this morning to see if I could get it changed. Our favorite menu item, beef Wellington, is on the Compass Rose menu and besides we like to go there on formal night. Monique moved the Prime 7 reservation to Friday night, the 19th. Once again we are spoiled because the crew knows us. We work hard trying to be the nicest passengers by calling them by name and ALWAYS saying hi when we walk past them. We thank them profusely if they served us.
Here's the secret to making the crew happy! I bring these from Costco in our luggage. They love chocolate. I give a piece to the room service guy every morning and to others who give us special service. When on a tour, I usually give the bus driver a piece. The driver will have a big smile even though he does not speak English. The candy is a great investment!!
This afternoon I am going to sit out on our balcony and enjoy the pleasant temperature while I can. It will soon be too warm out there. This evening at 6:00 pm is the crew show called "Krew Kapers". We saw it the first segment but may go again. Tonight will be tux night for me. We have invited Susanne Peters, our friend from Cincinnati, to join us for dinner. The 9:30 show is another performance by the soprano, Rachael Russell.
Watching ocean pass by this afternoon while sitting on balcony doing crossword puzzle.
