Think you can see yellow arrow showing we are about to enter the fjords. At noon the Captain said we would have to go back out in the ocean tonight from 8:00 to 11:00. After that we will be back in the fjords (smooth ride) until Saturday night. YEA!!
CRUISING THE CHILEAN FJORDS
The southern coastline of Chile is characterized by hundreds of fjords or channels from Puerto Montt to basically the tip of South America. Sandwiched between the Lake District and the ice fields of Patagonia are the heavily forested Andes mountains. The terrain rise abruptly and steeply both from the Pacific Ocean and fjord shores. I recommend you look up “Chilean Fjords” on Google Earth so see how numerous these fjords are down here. There are many glaciers flowing down the valleys from the Patagonian ice fields which we will have the pleasure of viewing for two days. Chile has designated vast tracts of these incredible landscapes as national parks or reserves. There are no roads so about the only way to see them is on foot, or by boat like us. The population density down here is said to be lower than the Sahara Desert. The fjords are used by ships desiring to avoid the heavy seas and bad weather often experienced from the Strait of Magellan into the Pacific Ocean.
What We Did Today:
This morning at 2;00 am we had to leave the protected waters of the fjords and go back out into the open Pacific Ocean. The Captain says we will be back in the fjords at 2:00 this afternoon. So we rocked and rolled again for 12 hours. Again this was caused by the long swells of the Pacific. I am not wearing a Transderm Scop patch (prevents sea sickness) now but do have my wrist bands on. They use acupuncture theory to prevent sea sickness.
We did not workout today as not sure we could stay on the treadmill with the way the ship is moving. Up at La Veranda and pool buffet they were featuring another Tex-Mex BBQ. As much as we like that we had lunch down in the Compass Rose. It is on the lowest passenger deck and mid-ship so a LOT smoother down there. Rebecca had a grilled shrimp Caesar salad and I had seafood pasta.
Rebecca has had problems with a stuffy head ever since the cruise started. We brought our allergen free pillow covers with us. Could be the bed comforter. Anyway, this morning she woke up with a sore throat. Must be from some drainage as better now. She sounds stuffy when she talks. Will see how that goes. We brought a small pharmacy of our drugs with us.
Ok, it's 4:00 pm and we are back in the fjords with smooth sailing again. I ran down to the Coffee Connection and got a cappuccino for me and some cheese for Rebecca. This evening is our cocktail and dinner party with 5 of our friends. Celebrating our 1000th night of cruising! I will have photos of it on tomorrow's blog. I just ran into Dusan, the Restaurant Manager, and he assured me everything is set. I took a bottle of our Veuve Clicquot champagne down to Mirjana, the head sommelier, for her to chill. I don't think any of our guests like champagne but want to have a little toast. Besides I have never had a semi expensive champagne before. This champagne is one of the upgraded amenities that Regent gives their "Titanium" (400 nights or more on Regent) members.
Nicole Sasser's show last night was pretty good. She can certainly play the trumpet!! Tonight's show features a comedic magician, Peter Wardell. We have not seen or even heard of him. We will try to go see his show. I hope he as a "lovely assistant"!
Oink! I had TWO!!!
Very yummy sundae!
