Rebecca stayed up to watch "Bama" win national championship last night. Not me, as I needed my beauty sleep. This Double Tree is unusual in that it is mostly condos with private owners. There is no hotel restaurant so got a voucher to use in one of several places in a food court/shopping mall between our hotel and Marriott.
We chose this Argentine like place which was a very good choice. Will try another place tomorrow morning just to have change of pace. Just lounged around rest of the morning as it was cloudy and cool today. Rebecca had to watch her "soap operas" before we could go do some checking out of places for dinner tonight. A few years ago while here prior to a cruise we found a sports bar that we liked. Took us a while but we found it again today. It is well hidden so only locals or people who the hotels recommend can find it. We decided to come back later for dinner. After that we headed back to Publix to get a couple items. Here they are.
Ok, the Beringer chardonnay is the LAST bottle of cheap wine we will have to drink for the next 72 days. Interesting story about the Canberry Juice Cocktail. I occasionally like to drink a Cosmopolitan (thanks to our LA friends Rick & Ramon). I happen to make the "world's best" cosmo (verified by our long time friend, Charlotte Stockard). So Regent does not have this cranberry juice cocktail on their ships but use a sugar syrup and cranberry something to make cosmos. NOT nearly as good so I am taking this on board for bartenders to use when making my cosmos. If another passenger asks for a "Rick's Cosmo", I will share it.
Sun never did come out today and it was getting cooler at 5 pm when I went out on patio for glass of that cheap wine. We then went to Mike's for happy hour and dinner at the bar.
This place is on top floor (9th) of small condo building next to the Venetian Causeway. You gotta know where it is or you will never find it. Kim, bartender, has been working there ever since it opened over 20 years ago. She was amazing and made me a couple fantastic Makers Mark Manhattans. We had happy hour bar appetizers of garlic shrimp and supreme nachos. Food cost $11 total. This place is best kept secret in Miami. Drink prices half of what other places in area charge even during happy hour. Had nice conversation with some locals.
Tomorrow is a big day. Regent is sending a private van to pick us up at hotel at 11:45 to transport us and luggage to the ship. BOARDING DAY AT LAST! You will want to check back tomorrow night as there are some special events being planned for us tomorrow that I hope to post then.
****As a reminder to make your blog experience better, read the blog then go back and click on the photos to enlarge them. You will definitely want to see enlarged photos especially later during cruise.
